Welcome to Inspired Life Counseling in Waterford, Michigan
No matter what brought you to this website, I am glad you are here!
Whether you are looking for information about mental health counseling/therapy or life coaching, you are probably questioning if you can handle your current life circumstances on your own, or if you would benefit from getting some help.
The fact is most of us are not living the life we would like to be living.
Nearly all of my clients started where you are. It can be a very difficult place, but our first step in making any kind of change comes from deciding that we are no longer content to be where we are and making a decision to do what is necessary to get to where we want to be.
The most important questions to ask yourself are:
Where do I want to be?
What is it like to be me when I am not judging myself?
What would I do if I were guaranteed not to fail?
Counseling or Coaching?
The question you probably hoped to have answered here:
Will mental health counseling/therapy or life coaching help me?
The facts are that countless studies have concluded that therapy does work.
A Consumer Reports sponsored study found that 9 out of 10 people benefited from the treatment they received.
Based on a review of the research done by Consumer Reports, it was concluded that patients benefited “very substantially” from psychotherapy.
Studies have also shown that psychotherapy is as effective as antidepressant medications for mild to moderate depression, but the difference is that after months to years of only using antidepressant medications, the client did not learn the skills they could have used to cope with, and overcome, their depression.
The counseling process helps people develop insight and motivation to change, and typically generates an improvement in over-all health and well being.
Finally, with regard to life coaching, studies have shown that the coaching process using solution-focused interventions significantly increases goal attainment, enhances well-being, and improves quality of life.
Do you really need a counselor/therapist?
A good rule of thumb is when we have significant distress that begins to interfere with our ability to function, it is time to get some help.
Getting treatment does not normally require more than one session per week. Most people can see significant results in less than 12 sessions.
Some of the Warning Signs to watch for:
- Feeling hopeless and avoiding activities you once enjoyed.
- Using substances to cope.
- Expressed concern by friends and family.
- Declining work performance.
- Physical symptoms that cannot be explained medically: headaches, body aches, digestive and immune issues.
What are some things you should keep in mind when choosing a counselor/therapist?
Choosing a counselor can be challenging. It is a very important decision, because it is one of the most significant factors in achieving a positive outcome in counseling.
- The right counselor will be someone with whom you feel comfortable and connected.
- Effective therapy has focus: an identified problem, a written treatment plan with goals and objectives, and a shared understanding of the expected outcome.
- Therapy has profound and permanent consequences, so it is important to work with someone you trust.
